During this year’s Salone del Mobile, Apartamento took over the Milanese bookshop, Commerce, with a week-long pop-up bookshop—the first official Apartamento Bookshop ever. There, we celebrated the launch of two publications: Apartamento magazine issue #31, and Casually Sauntering the Perimeter of Now, Misha Kahn. Not long after our shenanigans at Milan Design Week, we flew over to New York City to celebrate our 15-year anniversary at the astonishingly beautiful home of Kim Hastreiter, friend and contributing editor to the magazine (huge thanks to Kim!). We also hosted a series of book launches, an exhibition, and a panel discussion. Only a few weeks later, similar fun was had in Paris. Inspired by all of the things we got up to in the first six months of 2023, we decided to open the next iteration of the pop-up Apartamento Bookshop, this time at the Apartamento Office, Berlin.
Doors opened on November 22, and we welcomed Berlin-based Apartamento readers to our Kastanienallee 27 address, a space specially designed by architect and designer Sam Chermayeff—the very same architect and designer that authored our two books Creatures (2020) and Beasts (2022). Since its official opening, the Berlin shop has hosted all the latest Apartamento releases, including our beloved Apartmento magazine issue #32, Casa Dalí, and our highly anticipated cookbooks, Apartamento Cookbook #8: Tuber, or Not Tuber? and Atelier September: A place for daytime cooking, complete with a special production of the Fusilli (Cook) Book Stand, designed by London-based designer, Michael Marriott.
Celebrating this latest iteration of the Apartamento Bookshop in Berlin has been a blast. In the lead up to the holidays, we’ve gathered with friends, toasted to a book or two, and greeted the holiday season with a special selection of Apartamento classics. We’d like to thank our wonderful guests, and of course everyone who has come to visit us this year, where ever in the world it may have been.
