Our first launch in the new year celebrated Roman Recipes for Modern Cooks by acclaimed food historian Sally Grainger in London! Friends and fans gathered in Books for Cooks to get their copies signed and enjoy some complementary bites made by the Sally herself—the book’s Chicken Salad, a layered dish where chicken and cucumber are flavoured with a revitalising mix of ginger, celery seed, raisins, and fresh coriander. Sally spent decades travelling with a ‘flat-pack’ replica Roman kitchen, inspired by the cooking platforms of Pompeii, and the event took her back to those days of visiting museums and conferences and welcoming newcomers into the world of ancient cooking. The perfect way to add some tried and tested historical inspiration to your kitchen, Roman Recipes for Modern Cooks is ‘a synthesis of ancient and modern cooking which allows the best aspects of ancient Roman cooking to shine’, offering 34 modern interpretations of wonderful dishes taken from Latin texts.
