Twenty-One Conversations with Architects by Arquitectura-G

Twenty-One Conversations with Architects brings together more than a decade and a half’s worth of interviews conducted by Barcelona-based architecture firm Arquitectura-G, published in Apartamento magazine since its very first issue in 2008. Expansive, technical, submerged, the book threads together some of architecture’s most singular minds, crossing decades, archives, disciplines, and countries, and placing multiple generations of architects side by side in a single volume. What started as a takeover of the magazine’s architecture section has now become something else entirely: a portrait of the studio itself, their own obsessions surfacing across every conversation—questions of scale, ambiguity, hedonism, bathrooms, dances, the house as a laboratory. As they open these interviews to the anthology, the architects unfold a series of choices in houses and homes that are deeply personal to those who conceived them, united by their fundamental questioning of universal needs answered by universal forms. What ties these houses together is something beyond architecture—less about having built them, and more about having gone on living inside the questions they raised. Twenty-one conversations later, Arquitectura-G draws each architect into a new one—curated together, and compiled by Moisés Puente, they are now asked to speak to each other across time.

About Arquitectura-G
Arquitectura-G is a Barcelona-based architecture studio founded in 2006 by Jonathan Arnabat, Jordi Ayala-Bril, Igor Urdampilleta, and Aitor Fuentes. Their practice spans ephemeral installations, residential projects, retail, and urban planning, with work published widely in international media. In 2015 they received the prestigious 2015 Mies Van der Rohe Award for Emerging Architects. They also teach, returning to the school where they first met. Since 2008 they have edited the architecture section of Apartamento magazine, a collaboration that also traces the development of their critical thinking.
