Birds of Paradise is a vibrant photobook by Spanish artist Ángela Suárez which explores the brave and bold hair colours found on walks around the photographer’s homeland and beyond. Inspired by her love of Spanish fashion and portraiture photography combined with her genuine surprise when she first took notice of the phenomenon, this collection marks an awakening of awareness and crystallises Ángela’s obsession in printed images. What began as a personal project of Spain street photography grew as Ángela began to share the work on social media, and it bloomed into a community-sourced record of electric blues, cotton-candy pinks, hazard oranges, and a rainbow of hues in between. Birds of Paradise is a casual documentary of eccentricity, an homage to what might inspire us when we take the time to notice the wild personalities around us.
